The Legacy Begins

GATA was established on Friday, Jan. 16, 1920, and is the oldest club on the campus of Abilene Christian University. Celebrating more than 100 years of history and tradition, GATA was started by a handful of friends as Girls Aid to Athletics.

1931 – According to the 1931 Prickly Pear, “The G.A.T.A., which is the oldest girls’ social club in Abilene Christian College, means ‘Girls’ Aid to Athletics. It is composed of 11 regulars and one substitute member.”
